A surfer was attacked off Marina State Beach in Monterey Bay, in Central California on Tuesday. An avid surfer, the victim is reported to be in fair condition after going into surgery last night. Since 1952, this is only the 10th reported shark attack on a human in Monterey County. The last fatal attack was in December 1981 when Lewis Boren was killed while surfing near Spanish Bay, just north of Carmel by a white shark estimated to be between 17'-19'.
Marina is located about 10 miles north of Monterey, 35 miles south of Santa Cruz, and roughly 100 miles south of San Francisco.
